WELCOME TO PEGASUS PLAYSCHEME
About Pegasus Playscheme
Pegasus Playscheme provides high-quality support and services for children who have a range of severe and complex disabilities. Our scheme runs for three weeks during the summer, offering a series of engaging activities specifically designed for children with disabilities and profound learning difficulties. Each child in our playscheme is paired with a local able-bodied teenager, ensuring personalised support and encouragement throughout their experience.
Open Access and Social Opportunities
We are committed to providing open access for disabled children, allowing them the chance to meet new people, forge new friendships, and take part in a wide variety of enjoyable and adventurous activities. All events and activities are delivered within
a safe and supportive environment, ensuring every child feels secure as they explore and take positive risks.
Our Aims and Approach
- Our aim is to explore working cultures that nurture peer support, offering targeted activities and managing practices that foster its success.
- Play is an essential part of childhood, engaging the senses and helping children to discover their world and understand their place within it.
- The more children play, the more they grow and develop.
- It is vital to create opportunities for all levels of social interaction, ensuring inclusive participation for every child.
- We cultivate an environment where children can simply be themselves, explore, be encouraged, and build meaningful relationships.
- Our scheme is developed and led by individuals and groups from within the community, fostering a sense of belonging and local pride.
- We include trips and outings to unique local destinations, broadening the experiences of all participants.

COVID-19 SUPPORT
How Pegasus coped with COVID-19
During isolation our children, parents, carers, committee all did our level best to keep our children amused and busy or finding some forgotten skills bringing them to light. It did seem to bring out the very best in us, Learning new skills has to be the bonus of self-isolation.
Whether it was delivering Care packages, socially distanced of course, or Easter eggs, we tried to keep Pegasus in the minds of our children letting them know we were still there for them. We even managed a full three weeks during 2021, by the skin of our teeth, covid free in between lockdowns of course.
