HOW DID WE START?

Pegasus: Supporting Disabled Children and Young Adults

Our Foundation and Growth

Established in 1986, Pegasus was formed by a group of parents who were disheartened by the lack of provision for their children with disabilities. Their initiative has grown into a respected community voluntary scheme. Today, Pegasus offers open access to disabled children and young adults, enabling them to meet new people, forge friendships, and participate in a variety of activities. Our community provides good quality support and services for all children, with particular emphasis on those who are disadvantaged or disabled. The scheme benefits children and young adults aged 8 to 21, granting them access to facilities
unavailable elsewhere in the area. We are committed to helping children develop independence, keeping them active and healthy, and using sport and exercise to strengthen the community and offer opportunities to those who are excluded or disadvantaged.

Our Community Engagement

Pegasus is Ofsted registered and highly respected within the local community. We
enable local children with disabilities to participate in active pursuits, whilst also encouraging local teenage youth to volunteer their time. This involvement helps shape the future of local young people. User participation is fostered through our Youth Forum, which holds monthly meetings and social evenings, ensuring that the voices of young people are heard and included in our activities.

Charity Status

Pegasus operates as a voluntary, not-for-profit organisation with charity status, No 299301.
